Fritz Beer and the Crooked Beat
Fritz Beer in an American singer/songwriter with multiple song credits in film and televsion. He has fronted bands from Austin to St.Louis, toured nationally and has several full length album credits. Beer currently lives in Asheville and fronts The Crooked Beat, an acoustic rock band. His Austin band, Punchy, was signed to Pinch Hit Records and toured with Charlie Daniels, Rod Stewart, 38 Special and Soul Asylum. They were a regular act at Austin’s famous nightclub, Antones.
Beer has won several songwriting awards, and has written and produced seven full length albums. He has composed songs for several short films and two feature length films, Graduation Day and Underbelly.
He currently has music in four running television shows and recently recieved an ASCAP Achievement Award.
In his current project, The Crooked Beat, Beer works with drummer Elzy Lindsey and bass player/vocalist Dave Baker, who came to Asheville by way way of New Orleans courtesy of Hurricane Katrina. Louisiana's loss is North Carolina’s gain. This joined-at-the-hip rhythm section draws from their punk/rock n roll roots making bands and singers sound great for years in The Big Easy and in Asheville. Sim Hickman, the newest member shredding on lead acoustic guitar, honed his craft for decades playing 5 nights a week in jam bands from Jackson to Macon county. In this all acoustic format with frontman Beer, their skills and raw passion for music truly shines through.
